Elland is a small town situated midway between Halifax and Huddersfield in West Yorkshire. The Association was first formed in 1931 with seven clubs competing in one league. The number of teams grew rapidly until it peaked in 1994 with a record 100 teams, playing in 10 divisions. The league’s expansion also extended its boundaries to clubs within an approximate radius of 10 miles, and includes teams from Brockholes in Huddersfield and in the opposite direction to Wyke in Bradford.
The present league has 90 teams playing in nine divisions, all playing each Monday evening throughout the summer season; each team consists of eight players who can be either men or women of any age. The Association encourages junior bowlers and many teams include youngsters to gain experience in a competitive league. We are proud that Graeme Wilson, one of the best known bowlers, began his career playing in our league.
The Association wishes to thank all those who have visited our website, and to all bowlers participating in crown green bowling, may you carry on and enjoy our great game.
